TERRAZZO GraniTech Micromosaic
A seamless value-engineered terrazzo alternative, resurfaced not poured — for interior and exterior floors, wet areas included.
TERRAZZO GraniTech Micromosaic is a cement-free mosaic terrazzo system. The mosaic itself lives in Monolith, our resin surface system — stone aggregate suspended in resin, applied seamless. Over it goes a monochrome coat of TERRAZZO GraniTech Fine, which is then hand-sanded back until the stone underneath breaks through. The pattern is not printed, applied or set by hand. It is uncovered.
Poured terrazzo is a construction operation — it arrives wet, needs divider strips, adds load to the slab, and typically takes eight to ten working days to cure, grind and polish. Micromosaic is resurfaced rather than poured: it goes over sound existing tile or concrete at approximately 3/8″ total build-up, in 6–8 working days. No demolition. No underbed. No cement — which makes it specifiable where poured terrazzo isn’t: occupied buildings, upper floors, projects on a schedule, and slabs that won’t take the weight.
Not poured. Not tiled. Sanded back to the stone.
How far the sanding is taken sets how much aggregate reads — and every floor sets its own arrangement of stone. No two read alike.
Built on Monolith
The basecoat is Monolith, our resin-bound stone system — so every Micromosaic floor carries its base properties.

Performance
- Surface hardness 11.5 N/mm², with high scratch resistance
- Impact resistance — 1000 g at 150 mm, no cracks or peeling
- Low water permeability — 0.040 kg/m²·h0.5
- Resistant to chemical agents; UV resistant for exterior exposure
- R11 slip resistance with the anti-slip sealer
The finish
- The stone is uncovered, not set — how far the sanding is taken sets how much aggregate reads
- 50+ off-the-shelf colors and 20 Monolith stones, specified independently
- The color you choose tints the background between the stones — the stones keep their natural color
- Divider strips every 50–65 ft (15–20 m), plus movement joints where the substrate requires them
On site
- Goes over sound existing floors — no demolition, no meaningful structural load
- Approximately 3/8″ total system build-up
- Low VOC (<50 g/L), low odor, minimal dust through mixing and sanding
- Hand-troweled, not poured — one applicator crew, no wet trades
The system, in layers
Six layers. 3/8″. The stone goes in at layer four and is uncovered at layer five.
-
Polyurethane sealers* Finish, stain and chemical protection — anti-slip for wet and exterior areas
-
TERRAZZO GraniTech Fine Monochrome fine coat — sanded back to reveal the stone
-
Monolith Resin-bound stone basecoat
-
Fiberglass mesh Reinforcement against cracking
-
Epoxy primer Mechanical bond to the substrate
-
Prepared substrate* Sound existing tile or concrete, prepped
* Substrate condition is assessed on site; an anti-slip polyurethane sealer is specified for wet and exterior areas.
Application
Over a prepared substrate — existing tile is deglossed and its grout joints closed with thinset — an epoxy primer establishes the bond and fiberglass mesh goes in for reinforcement. Monolith, the resin-bound stone basecoat, is hand-troweled, a monochrome coat of TERRAZZO GraniTech Fine is troweled over it, and the surface is hand-sanded back until the stone appears. Finished with polyurethane sealers; anti-slip for wet and exterior areas. Full method statement in the installation instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is TERRAZZO GraniTech Micromosaic real Terrazzo?
It is terrazzo’s material logic, rebuilt. The same granite and quartz aggregate, uncovered the same way — by abrading the surface until the stone appears. What changes is the matrix and the method: acrylic resin rather than cement, 3/8″ rather than an underbed, applied over the floor you already have rather than poured. A terrazzo alternative in the truest sense of the phrase.
What is the difference between Micromosaic and Microterrazzo?
Can Micromosaic go over existing tile?
Yes, where the tile is sound and bonded. The surface is first deglossed, and the grout joints are closed with thinset so the floor reads flush. An epoxy primer then establishes the bond, fiberglass mesh goes in for reinforcement, and the system is built on top. Anything loose or moving is addressed before we begin.
How thick is a Micromosaic floor?
Approximately 3/8″ for the complete six-layer build, and never more. Micromosaic is a foot-traffic floor and is not specified for vehicle traffic. Traditional cement-based poured terrazzo runs from ½″ to 3″ overall, depending on the underbed and installation method.
Can Micromosaic be used in a shower?
Yes. Micromosaic is specified for interior and exterior floors, wet areas included, and the surface runs continuous with no grout line to fail. Confirm the waterproofing assembly with our technical team for your specific detail.
Why is Micromosaic less expensive than poured terrazzo?
Because most of the cost of a poured floor is labor and time, not stone. Traditional terrazzo is set with metal divider strips, poured as a matrix, then hand-ground, grouted and polished in sequence on site — and any custom layout work, borders, logos or multi-color patterns, adds to that again.
Micromosaic is a Monolith resin-bound surface with a seamless coat of TERRAZZO GraniTech Fine troweled over it and sanded back. One crew, no wet trades, no demolition of what is already there. The aggregate is the same. The operation around it is a fraction of the size.
